Letta Mbulu<\/b> was lucky when she emigrated from South Africa, where blacks were troubled and ridiculed by the Apartheid system. She was lucky to rescue a recording deal with A&M Records, and even the label’s founder, Herb Albert<\/b>, produced the record, Johnny Mandel<\/b> did the orchestrations, and Quincy Jones<\/b> wrote the liner notes. However, it wasn’t only luck – Letta Mbulu<\/strong>‘s talents as a singer are such that they couldn’t be overheard. Her husband, Caiphus Semenya<\/b>, also from South Africa and a musician, helped her throughout.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

“There’s Music In The Air<\/strong>“, <\/span>from 1976, features songs varying in tempos and moods and languages, and there’s a mellow aura of purity and peace, almost innocence, that captures the listener.<\/span><\/p>\n
