Inland Empire (Imp\u00e9rio Interior)<\/em><\/strong>, or the last brushstroke in a triptych that gazed at the stars, sowed winds and, finally, sought the geographical limits of a country.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Going over the obvious lynchian reference, the last of Wasser Bassin<\/strong>‘s compendiums dedicated to experimental music produced in Portugal brings to light the electronic abstractions of Caranguejos<\/strong>, a somewhat obscure and certainly esoteric duo, formed by Tam<\/strong> and Miguel S\u00e1<\/strong>, with roots firmly established<\/span><\/span> in Almeida’s fortress.<\/span><\/span> The disturbing howls of \u201cAlcateia<\/strong>\u201d culminate, strangely, in the languor of \u201cRua do Marv\u00e3o<\/strong>\u201d.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

From the confines of Douro or, if you prefer, from the beginnings of Beira, come the irreverent drones of Ehxisp\u00ea<\/strong>, creative alter-ego of Rodrigo Vieira<\/strong>, a M\u00eada’s native, but an universal citizen of the sound spectrum.<\/span><\/span> Both \u201cMelo, \u00c9 Tudo Mentira<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cZ\u00e9 Elves<\/strong>\u201d are tracks imbued with the same austerity as Andrew Mackenzie or the rigorous precision of Chris Watson\u2019s field recordings.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

From the banks of the C\u00f4a, instead of rock engravings, one can distinguish the Warpian nostalgia of Folclore Impressionista<\/strong>, a trio of veteran collectors of sounds and landscapes, comprised of Jo\u00e3o Paulo Daniel<\/strong>, S\u00e9rgio Silva<\/strong> and Ant\u00f3nio Caramelo<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span> The trail proposed by \u201cWalk IV<\/strong>\u201d oscillates between the memories of Boards of Canada and the delicate timelessness of Broadcast.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
