In 1968, <strong>Valle<\/strong> was commissioned by Verve to record his Brazilian hits in English in order to capitalize on the then-huge Getz-Gilberto-Jobim-Mendes-Astrud market. <strong>Marcos<\/strong>\u2019 rapid and stunning artistic growth is apparent on this brilliant Bossa Nova album. Fans of S\u00e9rgio Mendes and Astrud Gilberto (both of whom recorded tons of Valle tunes) will enjoy it immensely, for &#8220;<strong>Samba \u201968<\/strong>&#8221; is definitely one of the ultimate \u201cloungy\u201d records.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Samba \u201868<\/strong>&#8221; is a vibrant set of Brazilian pop, indebted to bossa nova and samba but undeniably Americanized for a domestic audience. The result is a joyous album throughout that wears its dated sound quite well. <strong>Marcos Valle<\/strong> interprets eleven of his own songs, including Brazilian standards like \u2018Chup Chup, I Got Away\u2019, \u2018Batucada\u2019 and \u2018So Nice (Summer Samba),\u2019 as well as new tracks like \u2018Crickets Sing for Anamaria\u2019 and \u2018The Answer.\u2019 The vocal harmonies of his wife (the Anamaria of the song title) provide a beautiful counterpoint to <strong>Valle<\/strong>\u2019s voice on several tracks, making &#8220;<strong>Samba \u201868<\/strong>&#8221; one of the best Brazilian crossovers of the 1960s.\u201d(John Bush, AllMusic)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marcos Valle<\/strong> was the Renaissance man of Brazilian pop, as singer, songwriter and producer who straddled the country\u2019s music world from the early days of the Bossa Nova craze well into the fusion-soaked sound of \u201880s Brazilian popular music.
